BONUS POST: 10 Tips for Writing a Letter (for National Letter Writing Day!)
Everything you need to write letters that truly connect.
Dear Reader,
Today is National Letter Writing Day, which feels like the perfect excuse to slow down, pick up a pen, and send a little piece of yourself out into the world. In honor of the day (and as a thank you to you, my paid subscribers) I wanted to share a few of my favorite tips for writing a letter. These come from nearly a year of daily letter-writing, plus decades of being an old-fashioned paper-and-ink person.
Whether you’re writing to a friend, a family member, an old love, or someone you miss but haven’t reached out to in too long, I hope these tips (including examples culled from actual letters I wrote this year) help you find your way to writing a letter.
1. Start with where you are. Literally.
A letter doesn’t need fanfare. “I’m sitting at my kitchen table with a cup of chai tea” is a perfectly charming beginning. It roots the reader beside you.
