There are?!?! With all the travel I do, I've never seen them. Genius! Thank you for letting me know. I'm going to be on the lookout. Who knew?

Always fun to get a real reply by mail! There are (apparently) already some companies trying to do what you're suggesting.... Airport Mailers (and sister company MailSafe Express) provide kiosks near TSA security checkpoints so you can mail back items prohibited from carry-on bags.

I love that you got a personalized reply! And totally agree with your takeaways…I’m at a point in my life when I’m trying to get rid of things, but I’m sure there are collectors out there who would love to have your coin.

And I’m interested in Elizabeth Rynecki’s comment too — I haven’t seen these kiosks either but will be on the lookout. I actually don’t think I’ve ever had to leave anything behind but I certainly know lots of people who have.

I don’t think the kiosks would work logistically. That’s a lot of kiosks and to supply them seems like a logistical nightmare. I have a better idea. Get rid of TSA. I mean seriously, I am willing to take my chances at this point. As long as the cock pit door is locked and one anonymous sheriff is on each flight, I think we’re all good. TSA is a scam and a waste of money in my opinion. It’s one more way for our corrupt government to humiliate us and increase their surveillance on innocent civilians. I do not consent. #abolishTSA Does anyone think they are actually helping anything? I’d like proof.

I do agree that the TSA, by checking every single person, that security gets diluted. Just a sad world we're living in that we have to deal with mean people.

Yes, there are collectors for everything! And I looked at the Express Mail website. They have kiosks in only about 20 airports, none of which are in NYC. But i'll keep looking!! I might mention them in my thank you letter to the postmaster...

Felice, your creativity and follow-through never cease to amaze me. Airport kiosks would be phenomenal for several reasons. Yes, sending "over limit" products back home would be great but also because I write postcards when I travel and sometimes have difficulty finding a USPS receptacle for mailing, as some trips are camping trips, not a hotel with outgoing mail. Once again you've inspired me to write.

Thank you kindly for the unexpected gift of sharing a link to my post on letter-writing. You're the best kind of friend. P.S. I owe you a letter!
