Sorry you've got not so happy memories from camp. I'm sure your parents liked the break too! And for sure, I wholeheartedly agree to write letters to anyone away from home. Thanks for that suggestion!

Love that! Did you become a counselor after?

There's still time! Apparently there are adults camps. Who knew? Here's one place, they may still have openings this summer! https://www.campnocounselors.com/ If you go, send me your address...

Boot camp! I can't even imagine. Good for you. I do often say that I'd love to go to adult camp now. Shall we start one? You can be in charge of push ups.

OMG, the video...I remember the song so well from the radio but never saw him singing it!

I'm afraid my own camp experience never turned around from the misery of the first few days. I still get emotional thinking about how unhappy I was. The problem is that I grew up on a farm with every kind of activity I could do at camp without being away from home. But being the oldest of five, I can only imagine what a lovely break it must have been for the oldest three of s (me and my two brothers) to be away for a couple of weeks.

Bottom line, if you know a young person away at camp, school, college, Peace Corps, etc., WRITE TO THEM!

Yeah Felice, I ate this up! I remember the BIG WINNER ITEM socially was getting home made cookies that could be shared with the whole cabin. My sister, 15 odd years older than me, would print out pics of my pets and celeb crushes to use as decoration around my bunk bed 😅

Girl Scout camp, Camp Kenneydell, every year of eligibility. How I loved it. Thank you for this. I surely wish I had kept letters.

What a fabulous post. I never went to camp when I was a kid. So I missed out on all that. But I'm sure mail call would have been my favorite part too.

I enjoyed the Muddah Fadduh video. I'm still smiling.

Very nice! I loved camp when I was a kid. However, I tried to get my parents to rescue me from boot camp. It also didn't work. Oh, and mail call was the best time when I was deployed or overseas. Apparently my true "camp" days happened when I was an "adult."
