That acronym is a mouthful in itself! And yes, very fitting for today's climate. And I love the image of watching silent films projected on the back wall. For my 50th, during covid, the family set up folding chairs in the garage on a warm July evening and watched one of those tribute videos projected on a white bedsheet. Best night evah! Thanks for your comment!

You're in good company! I wrote and edited and still get stumped!

Well done, eh? Gotta love those naval acronyms! I bet you could write an entire book using them. Thanks Karen!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this. Shortcuts of shorthand? OMG. I learned a few shorthand tricks in college for taking notes and still use them when I write by hand, and have to now consciously NOT use them when I hand write a letter every day. Thanks!

I only got the first couple of words. I was lost after that. But it was fun trying to figure out the message.

LOVE THIS! And knew only a few acronyms without translation! Here is an acronym that comes to mind from my childhood watching W. C. Fields' silent movie, The Great Chase. - WTWCTA - "What's this world coming to, anyway!" This phrase comes to mind often for me lately! I'm going to write my mom a letter today, reminiscing about the Super 8 silent films we watched and projected on the back wall of our house for the neighborhood entertainment on summer evenings. Thanks for the inspiration!

And then there was shorthand, which my mother—a stenographer —was proficient in. I've found notes to herself and drafts of letters (some addressed to me but never rewritten and mailed), that of course I can't read. I asked a friend who knows shorthand to translate, but she could only do bits. Because, she said, EVERYONE HAD THEIR OWN SHORTCUTS!!

Fun column. Check out "Hick" about thousands of letters between the journalist, Irwina Hickok and Eleanor Roosevelt.
